Hilary's new replication book

To Hilary: I've been eagerly awaiting your new book on SQL
Replication that had been scheduled for April publication.
Any idea when it will become available? Thanks!
http://www.nwsu.com/forthcoming.html
http://www.nwsu.com/0974973602.html
I'm not sure if I will be hitting the June ship date, but it will be soon
after that. I'll let you know. I had a disagreement with Apress and decided
not to go with them. I don't know why they claim they are still publishing
it or why they claim an April print date.

Hilary's Merger Replication Book ...

In Hilary's replication book there is mention of a second volume on merge
replication. Is this available yet? Is there a target date for publication?
Thanks,
Bob Castleman
DBA Poseur
I am mid way through it. I am not sure when it will be in print. Probably
not July.

Hilarys book: Do we get a discount ?

Hilarys long anticipated book... When is out ? How much is it ? Would we get
a discount ?
Currently the typesetter is working on chapter 3 of 10 chapters and 4
appendixes. She tells me that she will have a first pass done by middle of
this week. So, depending on the changes my editor and I find, it will
probably take another week on top of this.
Then it is off to the printer. The print job will take an estimated 5 weeks.
So it looks like mid September.
As soon as it goes off to the printer you will be able to preorder it from
the nwsu website at at 25% discount. It will be eventually sold on Amazon,
Barnesandnobel.com and better books stores everywhere.

world...
On a side note, have you monkeyed away with replication on SQL Server 2005 ?
Would be nice if you had a book on that as well as soon as SQL 2005 is
launched rather than waiting till 2008
And Looking forward to your book... I wish it was one big gigantic book on
all types of replication. It seems like your going for one of each type.. Am
i right ?

|||After the merge volume I will be working on the 2005 version. Hopefully it
will be out shortly after the RTM of SQL Server 2005.
Replication is such a vast topic it is hard to contain it in a single book.
Book sizes are limited to 1100 pages, so I simply can't give all replication
the treatment they and you need in a single volume.

that timeframe is inaccurate. It will probably be going to print early
August, possibly even the first week in August. It takes between 25 to 35
days to print.

|||The transactional book is being typeset, and has been since 7/22. We are
hoping it will go to press next week. After this it will be a 4-5 week print
process.
I am sorry about the delays, some of them have been due to final editing
processes, which will make the book an even higher quality product.

Hilary Cotter - about your replication book

Does it show you how to replicate over the internet. I have read it can be
done. There are so many applications for this but little in the books or
internet in general. Regards, Chris.
Yes, it does. Review the sample chapter for an idea of its scope.

Hilary and Paul : SQL 2005 Book and Materials

I considered the idea, but have decided to produce a few
articles on the main changes that I'm interested in
instead - merge over the internet and peer-to-peer
transactional. Hilary's the man for books, and he'll be
able to update you about his plans.
BTW to be honest as MVPs we don't have much of an
advantage over anyone else in this regard - we still have
to do the research, trial and error, digging through
system stored procedures etc, although some changes we
hear about a little earlier. I know Kalen was able to
interview PMs for the various groups but that was
exceptional and we don't really have such access. If this
is something you're interested in - ie close contact with
the developers - then now is the time we can all do it.
Have a good look at the Beta2 and try to figure the
replication features out, then post your questions in the
Beta2 newsgroups
(http://communities.microsoft.com/new...s/default.asp?
icp=sqlserver2005&slcid=us). I have used these and the
Yukon ones, and the questions are answered by the actual
TSQL code developers - the people we don't usually see on
the public newsgroups, so this is pretty valuable stuff.

Paul is right. Please post your comments about SQL server 2005 betas. We
will be delighted to have your feedback.
